  Chloride ion itself does not chemically react with stainless steel or other metals, but there will be other cations in water with a large amount of chloride ions, and its conductivity is much higher than that of pure water.

  Stainless steel is not a completely uniform alloy in a microscopic state, and its surface metal composition is microscopically inhomogeneous. At the same time, it is inevitable that there will be trace impurities such as carbon. These non-uniform or impurity-containing parts will cause galvanic reaction in the environment of high-conductivity solution, which will lead to pitted corrosion.
